JetBlue to offer Wi-Fi on Flights

This entry was posted in the following categories: Mobility, News

While the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has not authorized Wi-Fi on domestic flights within the United States, they are now allowing JetBlue to have Wi-Fi on international flights, after JetBlue won an auction that licensed Wi-Fi in-flight.

For $7 million, JetBlue was given a 1-megahertz wireless license, according to the Wireless Report. JetBlue already offers live satellite television in flight, and they plan to integrate Wi-Fi into that offering.

JetBlue could become the flight-of-choice for people looking to use the Internet while on a plane.

While it may only be used while on an international flight, I'm sure that this is the first step to having Wi-Fi on every flight, regardless of the destination. JetBlue is one of the few profitable airline companies around, and they are doing a great job of making flying an even more enjoyable experience for their passengers

Make your iPod Nano Bluetooth capable

This entry was posted in the following categories: Mobility, News

iPod users!  You may be able to say bye-bye to your FM transmitter.

Now you can add Bluetooth capabilities to your Apple iPod nano.

This is possible thanks to an adapter from ANYCOM Technologies. They're calling it the BluNa. It is actually Apple approved, boasting a "Made for iPod" logo.

The BluNa adapter pairs up easily with Bluetooth enabled car decks.

It's available in black or white to match your nano. Of course this doesn't help those of you who have one of the nifty skins on the market available.

The ANYCOM BluNa will be available through a number of retailers, such as Buy.com, Amazon.com, and Office Depot, among others for $120.

Palm Treo 700p to be launched by Sprint and Verizon

This entry was posted in the following categories: Mobility, News

Oh how I hope this is true.

According to GadgetsOnTheGo, Palm will be releasing the much anticipated Treo 700p on not only Sprint, but Verizon as well.

There have been many images floating around speculating a Verizon release, but this is the first "confirmation" of it.

As we know, Verizon was the launch provider for the surprising first Palm device running Windows Mobile, the 700w.

If this is true, sales should skyrocket for Palm.

As a Treo 650 user from Verizon, this is great news.  I may not have to wait as long, or pay more for an unlocked device.

AT&T to drop Cingular Name

This entry was posted in the following categories: Mobility, News

AT&T plans to abandon the Cingular brand name for its cell phone service as early as 2007, according to a magazine report.

The company says it is making the change to reduce customer confusion about its brands, and will rename the division "AT&T Wireless," according to Advertising Age.

AT&T wants to sell customers bundled landline, Internet and wireless services under the same brand.

Advertising experts say the move could bring heavy marketing costs, as much as $500 million each year for several years, the report said.

AT&T first announced plans to shed the Cingular name after its merger with SBC closed in November 2005.

Consumers interested in signing up for Helio can do so at helio.com, through a special toll free number and at 1,000 retail locations by the end of May. The service will feature online content, games, and messaging. The company even has an interesting way for customers to share content among friends, which it calls gifting and begging.

Samsung's 'Origami' PC now available

This entry was posted in the following categories: Mobility, News

Samsung on Monday announced the U.S. availability of the Q1, the company's first device to fall under the Ultra Mobile PC platform. The unit would retail for $1,099 USD, just above Microsoft's target of $599 to $999 for the "Origami" line of devices. UMPCs largely resemble a small Tablet PC with 7-inch touch screen, and run a full version of Windows XP with special software.

However, the high price limits the appeal to a small segment, say analysts. "Clearly, the goal is a toy for boys," says Jupiter Research senior analyst Joe Wilcox. "With Q1 the S isn't just for Samsung, it's for "status symbol." Everything about the Samsung Q1 is uptown." Another company, Founder, will release a UMPC model later this quarter, with a device by ASUS expected over the summer.
