Google Talk VoIP protocols published

This entry was posted in the following categories: News, Web services

Last week the Jabber Software Foundation announced the publication of Jingle, a set of extensions to XMPP, the message protocol used by Jabber, for use VoIP and video, which are open version of the protocols used by Google Talk.

Google has been working with Jabber to standardize these protocols, and have released the open source Libjingle package for other developers to make use of the protocols.

The makers of other software including Trillian, Asterisk, and Gaim have also pledged support of the Jingle protocols.

Will Microsoft and AOL join the party?
