Firefox TV Ad Contest

Now that the Mozilla Group has launched Firefox 1.5 (you owe it to yourself to try it out), they are
looking at different ways to publicize the new browser. They've been talking about running 30 second TV commercials for quite sometime now, and in the latest development the Mozilla Group is once again turning to Firefox users to help in that endeavor.
Firefox users are being asked to create a high-quality 30 second commercial, touting the benefits of the open source browser. The ads will be entered into a contest that will be judged by veteran Hollywood actors, cinematographers, producers and directors. I think its telling that the Mozilla group is relying on volunteers to help with their publicity campaign.
First, it's probably out of necessity, but it also shows that there are a lot of different ways to contribute to the open source community. Gone are the days when "contributing" meant exclusively writing code or testing beta-versions of the application. Now, being a part of that community may include helping with advertising and publicity for the product. It's really a much more expansive view of that "community" and perhaps a sign of things to come.
