Interested in taking your Tivo recordings with you? Worried it takes too many steps or too complicated? Not anymore! With AutoPilot you can schedule the automatic transfer and conversion of Tivo recordings to Palm, PSP or iPod format, so the latest episodes of your favorite shows are ready and waiting for you on your portable iPod, PSP, PDA or other device equipped with AVI or MPEG player. |
- a networked Tivo
- TivoToGo™ 2.1 or higher
- Windows 2000 or XP with at least 10GB of available disk space
- AutoPilot from TV Harmony
- a portable video player such as:
- Sony PSP
- (video capable) iPod
- Palm (install the free TCPMP player)
- or other device capable of playing AVI or MPEG files
- if your portable video player is a PSP, Palm or other that uses memory cards then you'll want to get a 1gb or larger memory card. You can use a smaller memory card to just try this out. Here's an idea of roughly how much space video will take up
Duration Ok Quality
(376 kbps)Great Quality
(768 kbps)2 minutes 5.5 mb 11.3 mb 1 hour 165 mb 338 mb 2 hours 330 mb 675 mb
- Connect your Tivo to your home network if you haven't already done so.
Tips:- Use a wired (not wireless) connection, as the files you'll be transferring are multi gigabyte files
- Use a Fast Ethernet (100mb/s) router, switch or hub.
- Be sure to get a compatible USB/Ethernet adapter
- Install Tivo to Go
Tips:- Confirm that your Tivo has the latest firmware, 7.1 is required for Tivo To Go
- Write down your media access key, you'll need it again
- Install AutoPilot
- Using AutoPilot select a show to transfer and convert the show
Tips:- Use the Rules and Scheduling options, they save time later
- Move the show file to the proper place
- for the iPod you'll need to import this into iTunes
- for the PSP you'll can either have the converted show saved directly to your memory card or move the file to the \MP_ROOT\100MNV01 folder on your Memory Stick Duo card. If this folder doesn't exist then create it.
- for the Palm you'll want to put this in the \Video folder if you haven't already done so.
